I have multiple commission schemes set up. How do I know which one will apply?

As a Webgains advertiser there are a few ways to set up commission schemes depending on the desired commission structure for your program.

There is a ‘priority’ ranking for these commission schemes, so that in the case a transaction meets multiple commission ‘rules’, the top priority scheme will apply.

1. Voucher Commission

The top priority commission scheme is voucher commission. This is where a specific commission rate (different from the default) is assigned to a voucher code. Voucher commission can be set up within a program under Ads > Voucher Manager, during the addition of a new voucher code to this section, however it requires voucher tracking to be in place for the program so that Webgains can track when the voucher has been used in a transaction.

This means that if a customer places a transaction via Webgains that has voucher commission applied, it will take top priority above any other commission schemes set up.

2. Smart Commission

The next priority for commission attribution is Smart Commission. For every item tracked in a transaction, the Webgains system will try and match this to every active Smart Commission, checking the rules in place for that scheme.

It will do this in order of priority, starting with 0. The order is set when the Smart Commission is created or updated.

If the rules defined in the Smart Commission match the item in the transaction, for example the product included match or the sites included match, then the Smart Commission will be applied to that item.

If the item matches multiple active Smart Commission scheme rules, it will respect the schemes Priority order. The last applied commission, meaning the one with the highest number, ultimately takes effect. Commissions can either have specific conditions, such as applying only to certain publishers or customer types, or they can have no conditions, in which case they apply to all orders.

If a Smart Commission has ‘Stop further processing’ ticked, the system will not check any Smart Commission rules after this.

3. Event/ Default Commission

If no voucher commission and no Smart Commission has been attributed to the transaction item, then standard event commissions will then apply.

The Tracking Flow:

  1. The system first checks for voucher commission, and applies if the conditions are met.

  2. It then checks for smart commission against the tracked item IDs.

    1. If multiple smart commission rules apply to an item, Priority order is respected.

  3. If the above has not yet applied to a tracked item, event commission applies for any remaining items.
